Physicians ACO (PACO) is a partnership of healthcare providers who choose to work together to improve the quality, coordination, and efficiency of the care they deliver to you, the patient. PACO is an accountable care organization whose participating physicians are committed to providing patients with the highest level of quality care that will truly make a difference in their lives.
As an accountable care organization, PACO shares a three-part aim:
- Improve patient experience
- Improve population health
- Decrease healthcare costs
PACO physicians are focused on a model of organization around the primary care physician, who provides the 5 core functions of primary care:
- Comprehensive care
- Patient-centered care
- Coordinated care
- Accessible services
- Quality and safety
As such, your PACO provider will spend sufficient time at each appointment to explain diseases, treatments and results in an easily understandable manner, as well as listen to your feelings and questions to help you make decisions about your care.
Your physician will maintain records of all of your visits and treatment from specialists, if any, in order to sustain a clear picture of your overall health. Appointments can be made without long wait times, and your provider or representative will be easy to reach by phone when you need care.

Shared Savings Program
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has established a Medicare Shared Savings Program (Shared Savings Program) to facilitate coordination and cooperation among providers to improve the quality of care for Medicare Fee-For-Service (FFS) beneficiaries and reduce unnecessary costs. Eligible providers, hospitals, and suppliers may participate in the Shared Savings Program by creating or participating in an accountable care organization (ACO).
The Shared Savings Program is designed to improve beneficiary outcomes and increase value of care by:
- Promoting accountability for the care of Medicare FFS beneficiaries
- Requiring coordinated care for all services provided under Medicare FFS
- Encouraging investment in infrastructure and redesigned care processes
The Shared Savings Program will reward ACOs that lower their growth in health care costs while meeting performance standards on quality of care and putting patients first. Participation in an ACO is purely voluntary.
